While the PAU09 has two obnoxious antenna, its range is shorter than my (6 year old.) on-board wifi (that doesn't have two large antenna). I guess the 6 year difference doesn't matter. The second star I've removed is because of the range. do not make the same mistake I did!) The subtracted star is because the PAU09 sometimes performs a little worse than my on-board wifi, especially with 5ghz. (While writing this review I realized that the PAU09 claims 300Mbps and my Centrino wifi claims 450mbps. I have subtracted one star because after many speed tests through different services, the PAU09 performs either the same as my 6 year old wifi chip, or sometimes slower (especially when connected to 5ghz wifi.) It is important to note that my expectation is partially due to my ignorance my on-board wifi and the PAU09 are both n-adapters, but I assumed that a new N-600 chip would perform better than my current one. I figured that the PAU09 would be faster and have better range than my 6 year old wifi chip. The on-board wifi is the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300. so I don't know.)I've subtracted two stars for the following reasons: I have an old, 2010 HP Elitebook 8440p. (I tried the same tutorials with my on-board wifi card and it DID successfully inject packets. The only issue I've encountered, and for some it may be an important problem, is this: no matter what configuration I tried, I was unable to get the aircrack-ng suite to inject packets! This is NOT the reason I subtracted two stars, because I'm a novice and I'm assuming that it was my fault that the PAU09 couldn't inject packets - but I followed several tutorials, tried several methods, and, alas, no packet injection. Compared to past adapters I've tried, the Panda PAU09 was the most effortless to use with Linux.

I also messed around with iwconfig and was able to set different modes and adjust TX-power without a hitch.

PANDA WIRELESS PAU09 N600 DUAL BAN INSTALL

I've tested it with Arch, Ubuntu 16.04, and Kali 2017.2 - all worked instantly, beautifully, and without the need to install any additional packages (for all 3). Range is not as good as I hoped (again, my 6 year old on-board wifi chip has better range).-I purchased this product because it is plug-n-play with Linux distributions. Speed is sometimes slower (less stable?) than my 6 year old on-board wifi (though they're both n-adapters). TL DR -> Definitely plug-n-play with the 3 Linux distro's I tried (though packet injection didn't seem to work). 5 Amazing compatibility with Linux! Not amazing: speed and range. I appreciate Panda Wireless's focus on the community of Linux users-it's nice when basic, practical things like Wi-Fi adapters just work well out of the box without causing unanticipated hassles. Cat 6 cable, which gave us the reliability we needed for such a high-bandwidth activity as live streaming. Before returning this product, I wanted to leave a review because the return is not prompted by any quality issues or dissatisfaction on my part. After failing miserably with several other Wi-Fi adapters, this Panda seemed to be working well in test streams with fewer people in the building (even though the router's signal had to go through three walls-2 plaster, 1 brick) however, we had big crowds at church a couple Sundays before Christmas, and the addition of all the extra people moving around just proved to be too much interference for a Wi-Fi solution to be feasible. The USB extension cord and dock can be very helpful if you are using this with a desktop, as you have better ability to position your Wi-Fi receiver in a line of sight to your router.Unfortunately, as much as I like this product, I will have to return it because it ended up not being what I needed for the application at hand (a Facebook Live streaming computer for church services). (This dongle is both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHZ.) For its price, this dongle is AWESOME! 5 Good adapter for Ubuntu 16.04LTS, even with old and unusual computer (2006 MacPro 1,1)! Worked right out of the box on my unusual system (2006 MacPro 1,1 "Cheese Grater" running Ubuntu 16.04LTS-I've had some trouble with other USB devices, but not this one). I had no issues, needed no new drivers, and got it working great out of the box. This dongle will be replacing all of my Alpha AWUS036N (HN, etc.) dongles, as the Alphas are only 2.4 GHz. I am using it for penetration testing, RF site survey and wifi security testing (think: Kali Linux).

  • Electronic Dictionaries, Thesauri & TranslatorsĪstonishing receive performance and compatible with everything I tried! Great little dongle, very sensitive, has removable antennas, and works out of the box on multiple Linux hosts (CentOS, Ubuntu).
